Hi everyone!

I know I have been MIA for awhile now! Between being pregnant with baby #3, my volunteer doula work, and starting midwifery school it has taken me awhile to get back on the bandwagon with diapers. I have missed it though!

Here's the big news:

iCandy Wrapper + Liner: The cutest waterproof diaper cover! Use with our contoured, quilted soakers or as a cover for many other diapers. I have not tested personally, but have heard from many customers that the iCandy Wrapper and Liner combo works well with pre-folds and bio-soakers!

Contoured Quilted Soakers: Perfect compliment to the iCandy Wrapper and Liner or use as a soaker/insert for many other diapering systems. These are topped with microfleece so they are fine to use in direct contact with baby's skin (unlike microterry inserts).

Extra Liners: Extra snap-in PUL liners for the iCandy diapering system (these are what makes your iCandy Wrapper waterproof!)

Dear Urban Fluff Customers and Fans,

For the past four and a half years I have been designing and sewing innovative diapering products, that I hope many moms, dads, and babies have enjoyed. In the beginning it was just me in our small kitchen, designing the diapers, sewing them, designing the website, maintaining it, and processing and shipping orders. With one, and then two, little ones (14 months apart) it was pretty chaotic! Today, Urban Fluff is still a very small company, but I do have help with the sewing. I have a wonderful seamstress who sews most of the diapering products so that I can focus on managing all the other aspect of the business. Occasionally I have also had a generous friend or family member who has come on to help me answer your emails and ship packages. A lot of folks think we are a big, impersonal company, which I guess I take as a compliment that we are projecting a professional image. But really it is just me, one work-at-home mom, running the show. Which gets me to my point, I have realized that I am not happy with the way the diaper company is being run right now. I miss the personal contact and really knowing my customers that I had when I was sewing custom orders myself on a very small scale. I cannot afford right now to continue to have the diapers produced by a third party on the small and sporadic scale that we have been producing them and I also am not prepared to take the company to the next level of larger scale production and marketing. So I have decided to go back to where it all started. After a little break over the holidays, I will be sewing custom orders myself from time to time, on a very small scale, from home, where I can get to know each and every customer and create unique works of "diaper art" for them. I will also be dedicating a lot of my time to my passion for childbirth and helping and educating women in my community through my doula business and my volunteer work as the chapter leader of our local International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) chapter. Finally, I will be dedicating myself to my family. With a husband in the Marine Corps another deployment is always around the corner and our time together is so precious. I hope you all will understand why I am changing the business structure, I won't say closing the business, but it will be a dramatic change. I will do my best to answer your emails, questions, and concerns, but please understand that I am one, very busy mama, :) and if it takes me a few days or even a week, please be patient with me. I very much appreciate all of your support for Urban Fluff over the years, it has been an exciting, interesting, stressful, fun, and educational experience!

It's been awhile since I've blogged but I've been so wrapped up in the inventory liquidation sale, packaging, shipping, tagging, sewing my fingers off finalizing the new designs, emailing, my son starting preschool...and the list goes on!

But FINALLY the sneak peek of the new iCandy Diapering System is up on the website! I'm totally excited, can you tell?!

Our "Wick-free Guarantee"

We're shooting for a November release date and you can look for reviews and giveaways from all your (and our) favorite Mom-bloggers around that time as well.

The design for this diaper came to me (literally) in the middle of the night and I jumped out of bed at 3:00am and ran down to my sewing machine and sewed the first one, right then and there. There probably aren't many people out there having diaper-obsessed dreams, but hey, that's what I do!

I think this design is by far the most innovative one that I've come up with yet. And so far the feedback that we've gotten on it has been awesome. It is a three part system-the iCandy Wrapper is an outer cover that is made from super-cute designer cotton prints. We plan on having prints changing and rotating out frequently as fabric designers release new prints. And if you have a print recommendation we'd love to hear it!

Then there's a snap-in liner. This liner is made from wipe-clean PUL, gusseted, and trimmed with super-soft micro chamois. It keeps messes off of your iCandy wrapper! But you don't need to snap out the liner every time you change a diaper. Just like a PUL diaper cover the liner can often just be wiped clean and a new insert placed in. If you have a blow out and you feel the liner also needs changing you simply snap out the liner and insert together, pop them in your laundry bag and snap in a new liner and insert. There's really almost never a cause to change your iCandy wrapper-unless of course you want to see your little darling diapered in a multitude of designer prints every day and you just can't help yourself!

We're starting out with 20 prints right off the bat! Every iCandy wrapper will come with a liner and insert and additional inserts and liners will be sold separately.

Last month I had the pleasure of meeting Atsuko, who represents our distributor in Japan, in person. We met in Raleigh and had lunch and it was such a pleasure to finally put a face to all the emails! She brought the most beautiful gifts for our family. Thank you, thank you! We are just so happy to have such a great retailer/distributor in Japan! They have given us a lot of support, not to mention been patient while the company has grown, changed names, changed websites, changed product designs, etc.

I wish I had a picture to put up here on the blog, but I forgot my camera! Atsuko got some pictures of us together though and I'm going to steal one from her one of these days! :)

For now, here are a couple more images of our diapers in Japanese magazines (so exciting!) and I also wanted to share a few of the images of custom diapers from their website. I LOVE doing custom orders for Japan because they pick the CUTEST fabrics and color combos! Don't you just want to give these minkee diapers a hug? TOO CUTE!

We are working on a custom order for them right now with some

new poly prints and I can't wait to see the results!

Oh and that gorgeous blanket and changing pad in the photo with our diaper was made by Jesseca at The Modern Baby Company (formerly Quilt Baby). Way back in 06' when my son was born and I opened Just Ducky, I found Jesseca on Etsy and ordered some of her amazing creations to sell in my store. Well, I quickly found that I was overwhelmed by diapers and I stopped selling other products in the store, but I still go to her site from time to time to drool over her latest prints and patterns. Hopefully we'll be opening a retail location in the future and I will definitely be wanting to carry her line in the store. Check her site out at www.themodernbabyco.com.

A side note, though we are not making the OS AIO in cotton prints anymore (wipe away a tear) because of issues with wicking. I am in the process of designing a new diaper that will come in gorgeous designer cotton prints with a NO leaking, NO wicking guarantee! Want to know how? Just stay tuned, I just about need to duct tape my mouth shut so I don't talk about this design before it is ready, I am soooo excited!

Soaker Improvements!!

We've recently improved our one-size snap-in soaker pads! We used to offer two levels of absorbency, heavy-duty and standard, but we were able to switch our absorbent soaker material to an slightly heavier, but more absorbent toweling than our previous microfiber toweling. Our standard soakers are not as absorbent as the old "heavy-duty" soakers but almost as trim as the old "standard" soakers! We also increased the width of the soakers by one half inch. This increases the absorbent surface area of the soaker pad and also guarantees that there isn't a gap where wicking or leaking can occur near leg openings! We're very happy with the results we're seeing with the new and improved soakers and we hope you will be too!

It's a Snap!

All our pocket diapers now have a convenient snap at the back which allows you to snap in a one-size snap-in soaker (insert) that will stay securely in place. No bunching and no searching for inserts at changing time! Our pockets have a center opening which allows the insert to agitate out in the wash. Even if your insert is secured at the snap it will still fall out of the diaper body and get completely clean and dry, very much like our OS AIO diapers!

You do not have to use the snap and can still stuff our diapers with any absorbent material or insert that you choose and it will not affect the function of the diaper. The one-size snap-in soaker that match our One-size AIO's are now compatible with both styles of diapers. We also sell a one-size insert that does not snap in and can be used as an insert or doubler in any brand of diaper.

We're making the transition to the new Urban Fluff website (from the Just Ducky Baby! site). The homepage is up and we're still tweaking the detailer. The shop will open to retailers in the next 24 hours and to the public on June 6th!
